Hibernian have warned Rangers off pursuing midfielder Scott Allan, insisting that they are not prepared to strengthen Championship rivals, despite confirming the player has handed in a transfer request.

Rangers have made two bids for Allan, one of £175,000 and the second of £225,000, as they seek to take the 23-year-old to Ibrox this summer.

But Hibs have rejected both offers and have now issued a statement warning Rangers off making another approach for Allan, despite the midfielder asking to leave.

Hibernian said in their statement: "In the face of continued media interest, Hibernian Football Club can confirm that Scott Allan has today handed in a written transfer request.

"This comes on the back of two unwelcome and uninvited approaches from Rangers FC regarding Scott, the first for £175,000 and the second for £225,000", the statement continued.

"Hibernian FC has refused both bids because the Club has no wish to transfer a valuable player to strengthen a major rival in the battle to win the Championship and gain promotion to the Premiership.

"Hibernian’s position has not changed. The player will not be sold to Rangers."

Rangers thrashed Hibernian 6-2 in a Petrofac Training Cup tie on Saturday and are now trying to snap up one of their rivals top performers as they aim for promotion to the Premiership this season.

However, Hibs remain determined that the former West Brom midfielder will not be making the move to Ibrox to link up with Mark Warburton's men this summer, even if he has asked to leave.

Allan has only a year left to run on his contract at Easter Road.
