Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt believes the competition for places at the club means he is not assured of a starting spot for the Whites' Championship opener against Burnley on 8th August.

Mowatt has been hoping to impress new head coach Uwe Rosler on Leeds' pre-season tour of Austria and Norway, which they have now signed off on.

Rosler's men played two games on their tour, taking on Bundesliga sides Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim, and losing both matches.

However, the head coach was encouraged by his side's performances and Mowatt believes the German has a number of options to pick from when it comes to selecting a team to take on Burnley at Elland Road.

For that reason Mowatt does not believe he is assured of a starting spot yet, telling LUTV: "Definitely my place isn't secured.

"There has been 25 of us [on tour] and you've got to work hard to try and get in that team for the Burnley game."

Now Mowatt is looking forward to the chance to make another positive impression on Rosler when Leeds host Everton in a friendly this coming weekend, their final warm-up clash before the new Championship campaign kicks off.

"It will be a good game before the first week of the season", the midfielder explained.

Leeds played two pre-season friendlies before departing on their tour, drawing matches against Harrogate Town and York City.
