Aston Villa have officially confirmed the signing of defender Jose Angel Crespo from Cordoba for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Midlands club and becomes the seventh signing of the close season for the club.




“Aston Villa Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Jose Angel Crespo”, read a statement on Aston Villa’s official website.

Crespo came up through the ranks at Spanish club Sevilla before making his senior debut for Los Nervionenses in 2005. He had also played for Racing Santander in Spain and had spells in Italy with Padova, Bologna and Verona
 


He played 27 times in La Liga for relegated Cordoba in the 2014/15 season.

Manager Tim Sherwood has expressed his delight at securing the services of the defender and also talked up his experience of playing in Spain and Italy.

"Jose is a player who has been on our radar for some time and we're really pleased to secure his signature.

"He is an experienced player who has played in La Liga and Serie A”, said Sherwood to his club’s official website.

Crespo joins Scott Sinclair, Micah Richards, Mark Bunn, Jordan Amavi, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Ayew as the new arrivals at Villa Park over the summer.
