Chelsea have confirmed the agreement of terms with Atletico Madrid for the permanent transfer of defender Filipe Luis.

The Brazilian is returning to his former club after spending only one season with the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

A statement on Chelsea’s official website read: “Chelsea Football Club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for the permanent transfer of Filipe Luis.”

Luis, 29, helped Chelsea to their first Premier League title in five years and also won the Capital One Cup with the Blues in what is set to be his only campaign at the club.

The left-back joined the London outfit last summer on a three-year deal after helping Atletico Madrid to the Primera Division title and the Champions League final in 2013/14. He now has won two league titles in two successive seasons with two different clubs.
