Marseille have confirmed an agreement in principle with former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby.

The Ligue 1 giants have been in talks with Diaby and now have a full agreement with the 29-year-old, which means he is set to continue his career at the Stade Velodrome.

Marseille announced in a statement: "Olympique de Marseille and Abou Diaby on Tuesday evening found an agreement in principle for the arrival of the international at the club."

Diaby is a free agent following his release by Arsenal at the end of last season with repeated injury issues finally bringing an end to his stint at the Emirates Stadium.

The midfielder will pen a deal which will be based on a low basic salary at Marseille, but contain bonuses depending on the number of games played.

The Frenchman had also been chased by MLS side FC Dallas and Premier League club West Brom.

Diaby even underwent a medical check with the Baggies on Friday and manager Tony Pulis struck an optimistic note about a deal.

But he has snubbed West Brom and is joining Marseille.
