Rangers manager Mark Warburton has expressed his delight at the impact made by his substitutes in the Gers’ cup win over Hibernian on Saturday.

The Glasgow giants ran out 6-2 winners over Hibs in a Petrofac Training Cup first round tie at Easter Road in their first competitive game of the season on Saturday.

And manager Warburton is pleased with his substitutes’ influence, which he believes is result of having depth of quality in the squad.

Second half replacements Kenny Miller, Nicky Clark and Dean Shiels contributed to the Light Blues’ win, with Miller scoring a brace, Clark setting up Miller’s first and Shiels putting in a shift in midfield to see the game out.

“I was really, really pleased with them. Dean came on and showed good quality, energy and desire”, Warburton said to Rangers TV.

“Nicky put in a great cross for the fifth goal, and Kenny I thought from his first touch, with his movement and his ability to keep the ball in the final third, showed his experience and of course he scored two goals himself.”

Warburton, who was appointed the Gers manager last month, has already added seven new players to his side over the summer and is pushing to make Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan his eighth signing at the club.

However, Rangers have seen two bids rejected for the 23-year-old so far.
