Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on midfielder Jack Wilshere, terming the youngster as “a top-class player with top-class potential.”

Wilshere is a product of Arsenal’s youth academy and made his transition to the Gunners’ first team in 2008. He has made over 150 appearances for the Gunners’ senior team, scoring 12 goals in the process.

Wenger, who has been at the helm of the north London outfit since 1996, feels that the Englishman is a top-class player and has a lot of potential that still remains to be tapped.

“He’s a top-class player with a top-class potential [sic]”, the manager was quoted as saying by his club’s site.

The England international has been plagued by a plethora of injuries throughout his playing career and last season, he was reduced to a mere 14 league appearances due to injury setbacks.

And the Frenchman feels that if Wilshere remains injury free, he will showcase the full range of his skills.

“No matter how good you are in life, you need to have a consistent presence at the top.

“Today, what top-level sport doesn’t suffer is to be in and out because it’s too demanding physically [to stay in].

“What you wish for Jack is that he can compete now for six months without any problem, or for a year without any problem, and then you will see the player we all know he is.”
