Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett has tipped team-mate and fellow academy graduate Jesse Lingard to break into the first team picture at the club.

Both Blackett and Lingard have played important roles in the Red Devils’ winning streak on their pre-season tour of the United States, with Lingard scoring a goal against Spanish and European champions Barcelona en route to the club’s 3-1 win in Santa Clara on Saturday.

And Blackett is expecting Lingard to get more first team chances based on his performances in the pre-season friendlies, as well as the other youngsters in the squad.

“I hope so and I hope so for everyone as well, not just for Jesse but each and every young player”, Blackett said to MUTV.

The 21-year-old believes pre-season is a good time to impress the management, and like Lingard, is hoping to do well on tour to catch their eye.

“It is a good time to be knocking on the door and, just like Jesse, I hope we all do well on tour”, he added.

Blackett, who featured as a second half substitute in all three of the Red Devils' tour games so far, will hope for another chance to impress against Paris Saint-Germain tomorrow.

The game against the French champions in Chicago will mark the end of Manchester United’s tour programme.
