Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has said that the competition for places at the Red Devils is “intense”, but added that he expected nothing less at a club of their stature.

Schneiderlin has completed his move from Southampton after seven years at St. Mary’s. He went on to make over 250 appearances for the Saints and was integral to the side that finished seventh in the league standings last term under manager Ronald Koeman.

The Frenchman is set to face competition for a spot in the first team under manager Louis van Gaal, but he is undeterred by it.

“It’s very intense”, he said of the competition at Manchester United in an interview with his club’s site.

The 25-year-old further added that there are plenty of games across several competitions for Manchester United next season, giving many opportunities for all the players.

He went on to add that competition for a spot in the first team is part and parcel of playing at a club of Manchester United’s stature.

“There are a lot of games in the Premier League, Champions League and domestic cups and it’s good competition for us.

“We all work hard together but, of course, it’s the manager’s choice who will play – that’s normal. I want to play and the other players want to play, but the manager chooses the team and you always have to push to get into it.

“At a club like United you would expect nothing else.”
