Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has insisted that Arsenal and Liverpool linked Alexandre Lacazette will start the season at the club.

The French international forward’s goals played a big role in helping Lyon finish second behind Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

However, the Frenchman has been widely linked with a move away from Lyon this summer and the player himself has remained non-committal about his future at the club.

Aulas has so far failed to convince the forward to sign a new contract with the club, but is confident that Lacazette will start the season at Lyon.

When asked where he is sure that the forward will start the season at Lyon, Aulas told L'Equipe: “Of course!

“Why wouldn’t he be here? He has a contract.”

A number of top European clubs have been keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old striker and even the Premier League duo of Arsenal and Liverpool have been mooted to be possible destinations.

However, Aulas is adamant about keeping the forward at the club and there has been suggestion that Lacazette himself might not want to make a big money move before next summer’s European Championship.

He scored 27 Ligue 1 goals last season and has a contract until 2018 with Lyon.
