Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers feels that a trip to Finland to face HJK Helsinki will give his team the right opportunity to build momentum ahead of their first Premier League fixture against Stoke City.

The Reds have had an optimistic pre-season so far, having won three and drawn one of their last four matches.

And now as they prepare for their final leg of pre-season, the manager feels that it will provide them with the opportunity to build some much needed momentum ahead of the match against Stoke next Sunday.

The 42-year-old has also named a strong squad for the weekend, which includes the likes of newly appointed skipper Jordan Henderson, playmaker Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana.

Saturday's game will also give the fans the opportunity to have a closer look on the new signings with Nathaniel Clyne, Joe Gomez, Danny Ings, Divock Origi and James Milner all set to travel.

"It has been a tough few weeks; we have been working hard on our fitness, doing the running and conditioning drills."

Speaking about the overall progress during pre-season Rodgers added: "It was great to get minutes on the pitch in Australia and Asia, as well as getting some good results along the way – and we are eager to carry on in this manner, in the next game in Helsinki, so we hit the ground running."
