Tottenham Hotspur new boy Toby Alderweireld is relishing his defensive partnership with countryman Jan Vertonghten.

Alderweireld spent last season on loan at St. Mary’s with Southampton and earlier this summer he landed at White Hart Lane on a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid.

The Belgium international has been reunited with his former Ajax Amsterdam and national team-mate Vertonghen in north London and he is relishing playing alongside his compatriot.

The duo lined-up in a pre-season friendly against an MLS All-Stars side yesterday – Spurs lost 2-1 –and Alderweireld is happy with the way things are turning out.

“It feels familiar to play alongside Jan, I like the system we play and I like the team so I’m very happy, I feel very confident”, he was quoted as saying by his club’s site.
