Napoli are considering a summer move for VfB Stuttgart defender Antonio Rudiger, who is also believed to be a Chelsea target.

The 22-year-old centre-half missed a large chunk of last season due to injuries, but still did enough in his 19 Bundesliga appearances to catch the eye of his suitors.

Jose Mourinho is said to be a big fan of the Germany international and is believed to be plotting to take him to Chelsea this summer.

There has also been interest from Italy and Napoli are the latest Serie A club to join the chase for the defender’s signature.

According to Sportitalia, Napoli are keeping a close watch on the defender’s fitness and could make a move for him early next month.

Rudiger is currently recovering from a knee problem and the Italians want to be sure about his fitness before they try to take him to the San Paolo this summer.

However, Stuttgart have made it clear that they want their defender’s future to be resolved quickly and might not allow him to leave the club in the last days of the transfer window.

Rudiger joined the Stuttgart academy in 2011 from Borussia Dortmund and has developed into one of the most important members of their squad.

His contract with the club runs until the summer of 2017.
