Valencia forward Alvaro Negredo has said that he intends to stay put at the Mestalla for the forthcoming season amidst speculation that he is surplus to manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s requirements.

Negredo spent last season on loan at the Mestalla from Premier League club Manchester City and went on to contribute five goals and as many assists in the league to help Los Che finish fourth in the league standings and thereby seal a spot in the Champions League.

There was a clause in the forward’s loan deal that obligated Valencia to buy him following the conclusion of the loan stint.

But it has been claimed that Nuno is not keen on keeping the Spain international in his side as he prepares the team for the 2015/16 season and wants to offload the forward.

On the other hand, Negredo has said that he wants to continue at the Mestalla and he hasn’t heard anything to the contrary from the club hierarchy.

“I do not understand because my priority is to stay and nobody has told me that I am not needed, it would be weird as the club just exercised the purchase option”, he was quoted as saying by Marca.

“I am calm and I'm here to work harder”, the forward concluded.

Nuno put his faith in forwards Rodrigo and Paco Alcacer last season, and this summer, Valencia have added Santi Mina from Celta Vigo to their ranks.
