Serie A new boys Bologna are planning an ambitious move to take Southampton striker Graziano Pelle back to Italy this summer.

The 30-year-old Italian forward joined the Saints from Feyenoord last summer and was impressive in his first season in the Premier League.

He scored 12 league goals last season for Ronald Koeman’s team and started the new campaign with a goal against Vitesse in a Europa League qualifier last night.

However, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, Bologna are keen to take him back to Italy before the start of the new Serie A season.

While Pelle is believed to be happy in the south coast of England, Bologna are hoping that a return to his homeland could tempt the forward to make a move this summer.

However, the Serie A new boys are expected to find an unwilling seller in Southampton and Koeman is in no mood to sell the club’s leading striker so close to the Premier League campaign.

And with still two years left on his contract, Bologna might have to offer money beyond their means to convince the Saints to sanction Pelle’s sale.

His performances for Southampton earned him a call up to the Italy squad last year and he has earned four caps for the Azzurri so far.
