Chelsea are on the verge of signing FC Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Jose Mourinho's men recently sold left-back Filipe Luis to Atletico Madrid, the defender returning to the Spanish capital after just a single season at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho has admitted that the Blues are on the lookout for a replacement for Luis and according to German magazine Sport Bild, they have their man in Baba.

Chelsea have agreed to pay a fee in excess of €25m to sign the 21-year-old, a player Augsburg paid just €2.5m to sign from Greuther Furth a year ago.

Mourinho is a big fan of Baba and is convinced the full-back is set for the top, something which has pushed the Portuguese to make sure Chelsea win the race for his signature.

The defender has also appeared on the radar at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, however the Premier League champions have seen off their competitors.

Augsburg are now due to reap a major financial windfall from selling Baba to the Blues, while the defender himself will now bid to make an impact in England and live up to his billing as one of the most promising young full-backs in Europe.
