Galatasaray are keen on acquiring Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to Spanish daily AS.

Valdes joined the Old Trafford outfit on a free transfer in January this year and played second fiddle to first choice custodian and compatriot David de Gea in his inaugural season in English football.

The Spain international came in for heavy criticism from Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal who accused him of having a poor attitude. Following the Dutchman’s blunt words, Valdes’ days at Old Trafford appear numbered.

He has been linked with a move back to La Liga with Valencia, although nothing has yet come to fruition.

Now the former Barcelona custodian is being eyed by Turkish giants Galatasaray, who already have Fernando Muslera in their ranks, but could make a move for the Spaniard if Muslera, who has been linked with several European outfits, departs from the Turk Telekom Arena.

Valdes still has a year left on his contract with Manchester United.

The Turkish champions will be playing in the Champions League in the coming season and the promise of elite European football will work as an advantage in their pursuit of Valdes.

The 33-year-old is a product of the Barcelona youth academy and went on to play for several years with the Blaugrana first team before he became a free agent last summer.
