Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United are in for some exciting things in the next season.

After securing Champions League qualification last season, Louis van Gaal is expecting his Manchester United side to take the next step of their development in the 2015/16 campaign.

The Dutchman has already brought in five new signings and is expected to add a few more before the transfer window shuts down on 1st September.

There is a buzz of excitement around Old Trafford before the start of the new campaign and even the club captain is feeling it.

Rooney is looking forward to the new season and believes the new signings have added the quality needed for the side to build on last season’s fourth place finish.

While he feels that the players needed a little more time to get used to Van Gaal’s methods last season, he believes the squad now understand the Dutchman’s style and should hit the ground running this time around.

"It’s an exciting time for the team”, Rooney told the club’s official website.

“We’ve had new players come in, quality players, and we feel they can give us an extra gear to what we had last season. Obviously, the lads who have been here understand how the manager wants us to work.

“For the first couple of months, it was probably a bit difficult to take everything in and go out and perform, but we fully understand what he wants and, now we’ve added a few players, it’s exciting.

“I feel we have the right squad in terms of hoping to be successful this season."

Manchester United will start their season at Old Trafford with a Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season a week from Saturday.
