French giants Lyon have been weighing up a potential move for Manchester United full-back Rafael, however have now gone cold on the Brazilian.

Les Gones have their eye on several further reinforcements before the transfer window slams shut in September, especially with a campaign in the Champions League on the agenda.

President Jean-Michel Aulas is chasing Manchester City's Rony Lopes, who has a contract with the Citizens until 2016. The midfielder was loaned to Lille last term and made an impression on Aulas, who now wants him at Lyon.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Lyon have also been showing interest in Manchester United defender Rafael.

The Brazilian right-back is thought to be available from the Old Trafford outfit following the signing of Matteo Darmian from Torino and Lyon have looked at a deal.

But Aulas has now cooled his club's interest in Rafael, making it unlikely that the 25-year-old will be plying his trade at the Stade Gerland next season.

Rafael does though have just one year left on his contract with Manchester United, making him an appealing prospect for a number of clubs.
