Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is set to return to Italy after failing to agree a deal with Arsenal for Joel Campbell.

The Palermo supremo arrived in England last week, optimistic about his chances of signing the Costa Rican forward from Arsenal.

However, the Sicilian club have hit a brick wall in the form of the Gunners and have so far failed to reach an agreement with Arsenal for Campbell.

Zamparini is ready to pay a fee of around €6m for the 23-year-old, but Arsenal have turned out to be tough negotiators and are demanding something around €9m to €10m for the player.

According to Tuttosport, the Palermo president will soon leave London for Italy after failing to reach an agreement with the Gunners.

However, the Sicilian club have not given up hope and are expected to make a renewed effort next week to agree a fee with Arsenal for the Costa Rican.

Campbell is believed to be ready to leave the Gunners as he is not hopeful about getting too many first team opportunities at the Emirates next season.

And with only a year left on his contract, Arsenal are also keen to let him go to earn a fee from his sale but are driving a hard bargain with Palermo.
