Brendan Rodgers feels Christian Benteke's strike for Liverpool against Swindon Town in a friendly earlier today was nothing short of "incredible".

Liverpool paid £32.5m to activate Benteke's release clause at Aston Villa and he was given a taste of life as a Red in the club's final friendly of pre-season, away at Swindon.

Rodgers' side ran out 2-1 winners, with Benteke playing his part. The Belgium international was fed the ball on the edge of the penalty area, controlling it with his chest and then turning to face goal before unleashing an unstoppable volley into the back of the net.

The Liverpool manager was delighted, dubbing the strike "incredible".

"Christian's goal was incredible, whether it was a pre-season friendly or in a league or cup game", Rodgers told LFC TV.

"It was wonderful technique from the big guy."

Benetke has taken the number 9 shirt at Anfield following the departure of Rickie Lambert to West Brom last week.

Rodgers will be looking for the former Aston Villa man to score the goals needed to drive Liverpool into the top four this season after the Reds could manage a finish of just sixth in the previous Premier League campaign.
