Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho feels that his side were the better team in this afternoon's Community Shield and blasted Arsenal for adopting ultra-defensive tactics which helped them win 1-0.

A single goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the 24th minute was enough for Arsenal to see off Chelsea at Wembley, with Mourinho's men not enjoying a single shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes.

Even the introduction of Radamel Falcao at half time could not help Chelsea to find a way through Arsenal's defence, but Mourinho was not disheartened after the final whistle and expressed his view that the better team lost.

He told BT Sport: "We were the best team. We had more initiative, we controlled the game by having ball possession. But when a team is behind, the energy and intensity to turn results around is more difficult because people are not sharp.

"Arsenal defended with ten players, they put everybody in front of their own line and they had good organisation, congratulations to them", the Portuguese tactician added, before stressing his side created their chances with flowing football, while the Gunners had only counter attacks.

"They had a couple of chances in counter attacks, but we had ours in organised football.

"They played their game tactically and found themselves one goal in front without any reason.

"This season the Premier League title is very difficult, but it is very difficult for everyone. The way other teams are spending they have big power in the hands while we are the same as last season. And with that we are going to try", the Chelsea manager added.

The Community Shield becomes the first time that a Mourinho-led side have lost to an Arsene Wenger team, something the Portuguese will be keen to soon forget when the Premier League season kicks off next weekend.
