Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has warned Arsenal that the Community Shield will count for little when the Premier League campaign kicks off next weekend.

Arsenal grabbed a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley courtesy of an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain strike in the 24th minute, something Jose Mourinho's men had no answer to.

After picking up the trophy, Arsenal put on a show with their celebrations, shooting 'selfies' on the Wembley pitch and popping champagne corks.

Now hopes are high amongst the Arsenal players that they can challenge for the title, but Carragher has warned the Gunners not to get too carried away, drawing comparisons with two former Liverpool managers, Gerard Houllier and Rafael Benitez, who both won the Community Shield, but not the Premier League.

Carragher wrote on social network Kicca: "Arsenal lift the Community Shield but how important is it? I had two foreign managers in Houlllier & Benitez who both won it & both felt it was a trophy they could count on their cv's [sic]!

"It was similar with the foreign players also whereas the British Managers/players felt it was not something you counted when talking about trophies you'd won.

"We were still desperate to win as I feel both teams where [sic] today & mentally it will give Arsenal a boost today but that's all.

"The real stuff starts next week!"

Arsenal start their Premier League campaign by welcoming Slaven Bilic's West Ham to the Emirates Stadium next Sunday, while they then visit Crystal Palace the following weekend.
