Rangers manager Mark Warburton is pleased with his side's application in their 3-0 win over Peterhead at Ibrox today, but believes they could have been more clinical in front of goal.

The Gers had to wait to take the lead in their Scottish League Cup tie, eventually doing so through David Templeton in the 41st minute.

Peterhead though fought hard and Rangers only extended their lead when Kenny Miller came on off the bench to hit the back of the net in the 76th minute.

And defender James Tavernier then sealed the deal for Rangers by lashing home a superbly struck free kick in the 82nd minute, booking a 3-0 win for the Gers and passage through to the next round.

All in all Warburton was pleased, but he was left with the feeling his side could have scored more goals and will look for them to be more clinical in future.

"It could have been more, and the team have absolutely done their job, but Peterhead sat in and made it very difficult so we had to be patient", he told Rangers TV.

"I’m really pleased though with our attitude and the way we kept moving the ball, but if there is a criticism then it is that we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal, but our work ethic was tremendous.

"It is important that we get the just rewards for the work we are doing. We should have been more clinical and should have been rewarded more, but we’ll work on that and hopefully improve in the weeks ahead", the Englishman continued.

"The quality of play was good in patches, and the players are really embracing what we want to do and how we want to play."

Next up for Rangers is the start of their Scottish Championship campaign when they host St Mirren at Ibrox on Friday.
