Palermo are increasing their offer for Arsenal forward Joel Campbell in an attempt to achieve a breakthrough in negotiations to sign the Costa Rica international.

The Serie A side have identified Campbell as the perfect man to replace Paulo Dybala, who was sold to Juventus earlier this summer for €32m.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini was in London last week to talk to Arsenal, who refused to loan Campbell out and then rejected a €5m bid.

Arsenal were looking for €10m, but have now dropped that to €9m.

Now, according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, Palermo are increasing their bid to €7m and are hopeful Arsenal will accept.

There appears to be no hope of regular first team football at the Emirates Stadium for Campbell, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Spanish side Villarreal.

Palermo could offer the Costa Rica international the chance to play regularly and also put down roots, having been sent out on a series of loan spells since signing for Arsenal.

Indeed, Campbell has played his football in France, Greece and Spain since putting pen to paper with the Gunners.
