Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger feels that Petr Cech had an influence on the Chelsea players in this afternoon's FA Community Shield at Wembley.

Wenger's side ran out 1-0 winners in the English season curtain-raiser, thanks to a goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored in the 24th minute following good work from Theo Walcott.

Chelsea struggled to pose a genuine attacking threat and did not manage a single shot on target in the first half and though they improved in the second, they found no way past Cech.

And Wenger believes that Cech had a psychological impact on his former Chelsea team-mates.

The Arsenal manager said via his club's site: "He did well. Maybe he had an influence on the Chelsea players as well because they felt that to score against him they had to score the perfect goal.

"When you have that sometimes you want to try too hard. It happened especially with Eden Hazard when he had that chance in the box."

Wenger snapped up Cech from Chelsea earlier this summer, with the Czech Republic international looking to leave Stamford Bridge after losing his place in the first team to Thibaut Courtois.

The veteran goalkeeper is Arsenal's only signing so far this summer.
