Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes one look at Roberto Firmino is enough to know why the Reds lavished £29m to take him to Anfield from Hoffenheim this summer.

Rodgers threw Firmino into friendly action earlier today away at Swindon Town and the Brazlian put in a 67-minute shift in a game Liverpool won 2-1.

The Northern Irishman was encouraged and believes that Firmino showed what he will bring to the table for the Merseyside giants.

Speaking to LFC TV, Rodgers said:"You see his quality.

"He is really bright on the ball, has got wonderful technique and has got the ability to want to get forward and score a goal", the Liverpool boss added.

Firmino had a chance to score in just the second minute of the match, but it was another new signing, Christian Benteke, who put Liverpool ahead with a superb volley in the second half.

Liverpool's winner was scored by substitute Sheyi Ojo, who will hope to have done his bit to force his way into Rodgers' thoughts ahead of the kick off of the new Premier League season next weekend.

The Reds start their campaign with a trip to Stoke City, the site of a humbling 6-1 defeat last season.
