Celtic midfielder Stefan Johansen has stressed the importance of getting an away goal in their Champions League third qualifying round second leg tie in Azerbaijan.

The Bhoys have a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at Celtic Park last week against Qarabag and will head to Azerbaijan for the second leg this Wednesday.

And Johansen believes the Qarabag tie is far from over and emphasised the need to score an away goal to progress through to the next round.

Speaking to his club’s official website, he said: “We need to score.

“In the end, when you have the away goal rule then it’s important not to concede at home and we did that and scored an important goal.

“We have a good result to go there with but the job is far from done.”

The Norwegian, who scored in Celtic’s 2-0 win over Ross County in their Premiership season opener on Saturday, feels he can fire his team to a win against Qarabag, but says going through to the next round is the “most important thing, regardless of him getting on the scoresheet.

“I always feel like I can score.

“It’s more difficult to score in a deeper role as you need to protect the defence but I don’t care if I score, the most important thing is that we go through to the next round and we get a good result”, he added.

Should they pass their third qualifying round test in Azerbaijan, the Bhoys will be part of the draw for the playoff round which is due to be held on the 7th of August.

They went out of the Champions League last season in the playoff round, and will be hoping to fare better this season.
