Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has highlighted new team-mate Christian Benteke’s strengths and is happy to have the Belgian on his team.

Benteke made his first appearance in the red of Liverpool and scored his first goal via a volleyed finish in a friendly against Swindon Town yesterday, and Toure has talked up the 24-year-old as a “difficult” player to play against.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the Ivorian said: "It is always difficult to play against a player like him – he is really strong, he can hold the ball up, set the ball up for other players and can score goals, which is really important.

"I'm happier to have him on my side, definitely!"

The defender believes Benteke’s first goal for the club will help him settle and boost his confidence ahead of the new Premier League season which starts next weekend.

He also took time to praise the new signing’s debut goal, which he says was “fantastic.”

"It was a fantastic goal and he had a good game.

“It was his first game for quite a while and it was really important for him to score the goal.

"To score on your debut – and what a goal it was – can give him the confidence to go on and have a great season”, Toure added.

Benteke became the seventh signing of the summer for the Reds when he joined the Merseyside outfit last month.

The big money signing will be expected to fire the Reds to glory in 2015/16 after a disappointing campaign last season.
