Rangers manager Mark Warburton has expressed his delight at veteran striker Kenny Miller’s contribution in the Gers’ Scottish League Cup first round tie win over Peterhead yesterday.

Miller replaced goalscorer David Templeton at the hour mark and scored one himself to take his tally to three goals in two games under Warburton in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Peterhead.

And Warburton has heaped praise on the 35-year-old, and believes the striker will have a big role to play in the 2015/16 season for the Light Blues.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: “He has undoubted quality, and he is a hungry footballer who wants to play, and he will really have a big role for us to play this season, so I’m delighted with his contribution against Burnley, against Hibs and again today, scoring goals and making a difference.”

Apart from singling out Miller for special praise, Warburton has also talked up the hard work put in by the players as they clocked up their second win of the season in as many games, and hailed the positivity of his players.

“It’s difficult when you ask wingers to take players on and take risks in the final third as it can be frustrating at times, but they never stopped looking for the ball or stopped being positive.

“So I’m delighted with so many performances and a good result too of course”, Warburton added.

Rangers are up against recently relegated St Mirren on Friday in their opening game of the Scottish Championship.

The Gers are tipped for promotion into the Premiership in Warburton’s first year in charge at Ibrox after they fell at the final hurdle last season.
