Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is of the opinion that his side couldn't have a better place to start their season than at the Britannia Stadium.

The Reds are set to kick-off their 2015/16 domestic campaign against Stoke City next Sunday, at their home, a place where they were hammered 6-1 on the final day of their last season.

While the memories of that humiliation will still weigh fresh in the Liverpool players' minds, the newly appointed skipper feels that they need to banish those memories and start fresh.

A new season brings with it new challenges and the 25-year-old insists that his team couldn't have a better opportunity to kick on than at the place where they feel the need to perform the most.

"There couldn't be a better place for us to start and put what happened there last season to bed once and for all", Henderson told his club's official website.

"The lads who were playing that day will remember it for quite some time. It was a horrible day for everyone involved.

"We have a determination to do better and to improve as a team. We are focusing on the future and that is the first game at Stoke. They are a good team but so are we."

The midfielder also sounded optimistic about the new players that have been brought in this season, stressing the fact that the quality they have on offer will help to make all the difference.

"We will be stronger with the new players that we have got. We are a young team but we have brought in quality. I think the quality we have added will make a big difference.

"We have got a lot of character in the team. What happened there last year will only make us stronger. We have got to put it to bed.

"This is a new season, a new start. I think this is a really exciting time. We are quietly confident but we have just got to make sure that we go there, put in a proper performance and get a good result."
