Reigning Italian champions Juventus are eyeing Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano, according to Turin-based daily Tuttosport.

Juventus have acquired defensive midfielder Sami Khedira on a free transfer this season and are eager to add more steel to their squad with the purchase of Mascherano.




The Argentine has been part of the Catalan outfit since the summer of 2010 when he landed from Merseyside giants Liverpool after three and a half years at Anfield.

At Barcelona, he has gone on to become an important member of the first team and was an instrumental part of the side that won the treble of the league title, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey last season under Luis Enrique.
 


The Argentina international has been understood to favour a move to Serie A in the future, having played in the Premier League and La Liga over the course of his career.

The reported interest from the Old Lady could see him leave the Camp Nou for the Juventus Stadium.

During his time at in the Catalan capital, Mascherano has gone on to make over 200 appearances and has won a bagful of trophies.

He has also earned over 100 caps for the Argentina national team and was part of the sides that reached the finals of the World Cup last summer and the Copa America earlier this summer.
