This week is key for Sergio Ramos’ future at Real Madrid as the club attempt to push the defender to pen a new deal to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to Madrid-based daily AS.

Ramos has been heavily linked with a move this summer to Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United due to his apparent unhappiness with his contract renewal saga and the way he felt the club treated his brother and agent Rene Ramos.

The defender’s existing contract expires in the summer of 2017 and the extended renewal saga saw Manchester United attempt to prise away the vastly experienced defender to Old Trafford.

However, Real Madrid held firm in their stance of not selling the player and a compromise was reached when club president Florentino Perez and other officials met him in China and persuaded him to stay put at the Santiago Bernabeu for the foreseeable future.

Following the meeting, Ramos went to the podium to collect the winner’s trophy after a series of friendlies in China, something he had not done in Australia.

Real Madrid are set to compete for the Audi Cup at the Allianz Arena in Munich and will face Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow. After another game on the following day, Ramos is expected to sit with the Real Madrid hierarchy to sort out his future.

Ramos was offered a contract worth €7m per year in September last year, but he wanted a deal worth €10m, leading to the ongoing turmoil.

However, he is expected to pen a new contract with the Santiago Bernabeu outfit, despite the Red Devils remaining keen on his acquisition.
