Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that Manchester United right-back Rafael is on his way to the club.

Rafael arrived in France yesterday and is expected to put the finishing touches to his move to the Stade Gerland later today, with Lyon looking to wrap up the defender's signing as soon as possible.

And Aulas has wasted no time in confirming his side's move for Rafael, taking to Twitter to write: "Rafael has arrived from Manchester U.

"We expect an agreement from MU regarding the transfer. He is a cheerful Brazilian!"

Rafael has only a single year left on his contract with Manchester United and has slipped down the full-back pecking order at the club.

Indeed, earlier this summer the Red Devils snapped up Italy international right-back Matteo Darmian from Torino.

Lyon have Champions League football to offer Rafael in the forthcoming campaign after finishing in second spot in Ligue 1 last season behind Paris Saint-Germain.

The 25-year-old joined Manchester United from the youth ranks at Brazilian outfit Fluminense and has been capped twice at senior international level by the Selecao.
