Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has talked up the club’s new summer signings and is looking forward to seeing them in action in 2015/16.

Irwin believes Morgan Schneiderlin will be an important player for the Red Devils, judging the midfielder by his time at Southampton where he bagged the Fans’ Player of the Season award in 2012/13.

He has praised the Frenchman’s attributes and feels getting a debut goal was a “bonus” for the 25-year-old.

"[Morgan] Schneiderlin has had a great few years at Southampton, he’s very mobile, not afraid to put a tackle in and it was a bonus for him to get a goal on his tour debut", said Irwin to Manchester United’s official website.

"I think he’ll be an important player for us."

The former defender has also spoken highly of Bastian Schweinsteiger, who he says is a “serial winner,” saluting the German’s experience and is also positive about Matteo Darmian, although Irwin admits he knows little about the Italian full-back.

"As for the other two – [Matteo] Darmian looks more than accomplished in the full-back position. I don’t know an awful lot about him but he’s done well in the games he’s played in.

“And of course [Bastian] Schweinsteiger is obviously a serial winner – he’s won several Bundesliga titles, the World Cup and made over 100 appearances for Germany and 500 for Bayern Munich, so he’s a very experienced player.

"I think all the players have been great additions and I’m really looking forward to seeing them play in the new season”, he added.

Apart from Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Darmian, Manchester United have added two more new faces to their squad over the summer: Memphis Depay and Sergio Romero.

The Red Devils start their 2015/16 season at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, and the new signings will hope to make their competitive debuts in the season opener.
