West Ham co-chairman David Gold says the Hammers are almost certain that striker Enner Valencia will not require an operation.

The 25-year-old was forced off on a stretcher during West Ham's 2-2 Europa League draw with Astra Giurgiu last week after he hurt his right fibula.

West Ham's initial assessment has been that he can avoid having to undergo an operation, which if the case will see him out of action for between ten and twelve weeks.

Gold is sure the Hammers' assessment is correct and the Ecuador international will not need to go under the knife to cure his injury woe.

The West Ham supremo took to Twitter to write: "We are 99% sure that Enner Valencia will not require an operation.

"If this turns out to be the case he could be back in October."

Valencia made waves with West Ham in the Premier League last season and Slaven Bilic's men will be hoping to have the young hitman back in action as quickly as possible.

He scored four goals in 32 Premier League games for the Upton Park outfit in 2014/15, but may be forced to play catch-up with his team-mates on the fitness front due to his injury blow.
