Fluminese starlet Gerson has committed his future to Barcelona despite interest from Serie A side Roma, according to Catalan daily Sport.

Barcelona had paid €3.2m to Fluminense in order to have a preferential option on the purchase of the youngster.

But Roma jumped in to prise Gerson away with a bid worth €15m to the Stadio Olimpico, however, the 19-year-old has no intention of moving to the Italian capital, having said no to Roma’s advances.

Gerson’s decision to opt for Barcelona was communicated to Fluminense by his father on Monday.

Barcelona are going to sign the youngster from Fluminense in the coming days for a price to be worth €12m, it has been claimed.

The Catalan outfit have been hit by a FIFA-imposed two-transfer window ban on incoming signings – a sanction that prevents the club from registering any new signings until it is lifted in January next year, meaning Gerson wouldn’t be able to play for the Catalans if he arrives this summer

He is expected to be sent back to Flu on a loan deal and recalled to the Barcelona squad in January.

However, depending upon the decision taken by Blaugrana manager Luis Enrique, the Flu starlet could also be persuaded to stay at the Camp Nou in order to allow him the time to gel with his new team-mates.
