Former Napoli forward Massimo Palanca admits that the tension that exists between Napoli and Arsenal linked Gonzalo Higuain is not good for anyone.

The Argentine forward has refused to sign a contract extension with Napoli, providing further signs that he might be keen to leave the club this summer.

His agent revealed yesterday that the forward is keen to continue on the terms of the current contract, which expires in 2018, and is not interested in signing the extension offered by Napoli.

Former Napoli striker Palanca feels that the current tension between the club and the player is not beneficial for either of the parties.

While the former marksman feels that contracts should be honoured, he admits that things have changed in football these days and a lot can happen within a short span of time.

“The situation is not good for anyone”, Palanca told Tutto Mercato.

“We can talk about this affair as much as we want but he [Higuain] is in charge [of his future]. The contract should be respected but in football today you sign something and then discuss about it the following day.

“I wonder how this would go down in history, for him and the Napoli fans.”

Arsenal and Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the forward and could be encouraged by the current standoff that exists between Napoli and Higuain.

Napoli on the other hand are reluctant to lose their star man and has stressed that his suitors would have to pay his exorbitant €94m buyout clause to prise him away from the San Paolo.
