Villarreal are eager to land Real Madrid winger and Liverpool and Arsenal linked Denis Cheryshev on another loan spell, following his successful spell last season, according to Madrid-based daily Marca.

Cheryshev spent last season on loan at the Madrigal and was one of the standout performers for the Yellow Submarine as they challenged for a spot in the Champions League before eventually settling for sixth place in the league standings.

The Russia international contributed seven goals and 11 assists from his 40 appearances across all competitions and his performances have brought him admirers in the Premier League.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Russian international all summer and Arsenal have recently jumped into the fray for him.

However, Villarreal are eager to land him for another loan spell as they strengthen their ranks for the 2015/16 campaign and attempt to fight for a spot among the European elite with Champions League qualification the aim.

"Real Madrid benefited from sending Cheryshev on loan to Villarreal last season”, the club president Fernando Roig was quoted as saying by Marca.

Making a case for his side in Cheryshev’s pursuit, he further added: “He's a better player than he was when he arrived and commands a higher transfer fee. That wouldn't be the case if he hadn't come here.”

Villarreal manager Marcelino Garcia Toral also emphasised the importance of the winger for his side.

"He's an important player for us. If he doesn't stay at Real Madrid, we'll try and sign him.”
