Leeds United executive director Adam Pearson has joked that owner Massimo Cellino's recent holiday allowed the club to get a lot of work done.

Cellino has attracted headlines and controversy in equal measure since he bought Leeds last year and the Italian is already on his fifth head coach in Uwe Rosler, having parted ways with Brian McDermott, David Hockaday, Darko Milanic and Neil Redfearn.

The Italian brought Pearson in earlier this summer as he set about making a number of key off pitch appointments.

And Pearson is enjoying working with Cellino, explaining that the Italian has backed the club in the transfer market this summer. But in paying tribute he could not resist a joke.

Speaking on Sky Sports News 92 Live, Pearson joked: "He's on holiday at the moment which has been great; we've got a lot done in the last two weeks."

And he went on to salute Cellino, saying: "But I've found him very good to work for. He's got a massive passion for the club, very energetic.

"We had our targets and when it came to nearly losing Chris Wood he came up with £3m to get the player and move him up from the Midlands.

"He's going to be a big signing for us because he gives us a focal point to play around."

Cellino has set Leeds a target of earning promotion to the Premier League by 2017 and insisted if they do not then he will look to sell the club.

The Whites start their bid to reach the top flight this season by hosting Burnley at Elland Road on Saturday as their Championship campaign kicks off with a bang.
