Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez is unsure about the future of Celtic linked Martin Odegaard at the Santiago Bernabeu for the forthcoming season, giving the Scottish champions hope in their pursuit of the Norwegian.

Odegaard joined Los Blancos earlier this year and was part of Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid Castilla side that played in the third division of the Spanish league and are set to play in the same division after failing to earn promotion to the second tier.

The youngster has been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital on loan as Real Madrid try to find him a club that ensures regular first team football.

Celtic, who were linked with the 16-year-old amongst a whole host of other European giants prior to his move to the Madrid giants, have been reported to be interested in securing him on a loan deal.

And their pursuit has been given a fillip as Benitez remains unsure about his future at the Bernabeu for the forthcoming campaign.

"We need to see what we’re going to do with [Borja] Mayoral, Odegaard and [Marco] Asensio to evaluate the future and see what the best thing for them is”, he was quoted as saying by Madrid-based daily AS.

Odegaard made his debut for the Real Madrid senior side in the final game of the 2014/15 league campaign when he came on as a substitute in a 7-3 defeat of Getafe.

Celtic, who are managed by Odegaard’s former boss Ronny Deila, may be eager to land the youngster before the transfer window closes.
