Sunderland have held positive talks with Manchester United over a deal to sign Adnan Januzaj on loan this summer, according to local daily the Sunderland Echo.

The Belgian youngster broke into the Manchester United first team under former manager David Moyes and was one of the bright sparks in a disappointing 2013/14 campaign for the club.

However, the 20-year-old struggled to get into the team under Louis van Gaal last season and made only sporadic first team appearances for the Red Devils.

While Van Gaal has indicated that he might use Januzaj as a forward next season, there is an understanding within the club that a loan move for the Belgian could be beneficial for his development.

Sunderland are keen to take the Belgian to the north east this summer and it has been claimed that they are in discussions with Manchester United over a loan deal for Januzaj.

The talks so far are claimed to have been positive and the Black Cats are confident of pulling off a transfer coup by signing the Manchester United starlet.

Januzaj’s signing would strengthen Dick Advocaat’s attacking options for next season, as he looks to add more creativity to a squad that struggled for goals last term.

Manchester United are still in the market for forwards and Januzaj could be loaned out if they manage to secure their targets before the transfer window slams shut on 1st September.
