Fiorentina have reached an agreement in principle with Liverpool for the signature of striker Fabio Borini, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

Fiorentina have been preparing the groundwork for a deal involving Borini for the last few days as club officials arrived in England to negotiate with Liverpool.

And after a few rounds of hectic parleys, it has been claimed that La Viola have reached an agreement in principle for the signature of the 24-year-old Italian forward.

According to the terms of their agreement, Borini will join Fiorentina on an initial loan and Liverpool have inserted a mandatory purchase option for which the Italians will have to pay €7m at the end of the season to sign the forward on a permanent deal.

Fiorentina are yet to agree personal terms with the player, but it has been claimed that club officials have requested Borini spread his salary over the length of their proposed contract.

While the deal has not been sealed yet, Fiorentina are hoping to secure the signature of the Italian forward by the middle of this month, despite interest in the player from other Premier League clubs.

Borini joined Liverpool from AC Milan in 2012, but during his spell at Merseyside the Italian has found it difficult to secure a place in the first eleven.

He has scored just three times in 38 appearances for the Reds and has contract until 2017.
