Benfica are on the verge of signing West Ham target Raul Jimenez from Atletico Madrid after the player landed in Lisbon.

West Ham had been tipped to sign the Mexico international marksman, but Jimenez is set to be playing his football in Portugal this season.




Jimenez arrived in Lisbon last night and has been undergoing medical tests with Benfica today.

According to Portuguese sports daily A Bola, Benfica will pay €9m for 50 per cent of the player's economic rights, with the other 50 per cent held by super agent Jorge Mendes.
 

 

Jimenez is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Estadio da Luz as Benfica bolster their attacking options.

The 24-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Mexican outfit Club America last year, splashing out €11m to secure his signature.

However, Jimenez struggled for regular first team football at the Vicente Calderon last term and will be keen to play week in, week out at Benfica.
