West Ham target Raul Jimenez has joined Portuguese outfit Benfica on a five-year-deal and insists that he will fight to win trophies for his new club.

The Hammers, who are on the lookout for new signings to bolster their attacking options for the next season, had been considering the former Atletico Madrid marksman to fill the void that had been created with an injury to Enner Valencia.

However, the 24-year-old has decided to ply his trade in Portugal under Rui Vitoria, with the champions having reportedly paid €9m for 50 per cent of the player's economic rights. The other 50 per cent are to be held by the player's agent Jorge Mendes.

The club, while confirming the move, revealed that the Mexican international will be at the Estadio da Luz until June 2020.

The player on his behalf expressed his delight at having got the opportunity to join the Portuguese champions, insisting that he has arrived at Benfica to show that he can help the team.

Jimenez also expressed his desire to enjoy more minutes at Benfica than he was able to manage in Spain.

"I did not play as many minutes as I would have expected at Atletico, but I believe in my ability and I want to show that I can help the team", Jimenez told his club's official channel.

"I have a strong desire to play more and give my best for the team. I know well though that it will not be easy as I am at a great club surrounded by high quality team-mates."
