Rangers manager Mark Warburton will not be drawn into a war of words with Hibernian boss Alan Stubbs over the Scott Allan affair, insisting the Gers are "far better than that".

Warburton wanted Allan at Ibrox and Rangers had three bids rejected for the midfielder by Hibernian, who did not want to sell to Scottish Championship rivals.

On Friday, Celtic were successful with a bid and quickly wrapped up Allan's signing on a four-year contract.

As Allan only had a year left on his contract at Hibernian, Stubbs hinted that Rangers had tried to convince the midfielder to reject Celtic and sit tight until January, when he could then sign a pre-contractual agreement with the Gers; such a move would have represented tapping up the player.

Warburton is having no truck with Stubbs' comments though, even if he is not willing to engage in a war of words with the Hibernian boss.

"It would be easier to sit here and respond with a cheap shot or a retort, but I think throughout the whole process we've acted with integrity and professionalism befitting of Rangers Football Club and that won't change now, we're far better than that", he said at a press conference, when asked about what Stubbs said.

"So I think we'll maintain that professional stance."

And Warburton insists Rangers acted properly throughout the whole affair.

"Absolutely [I reject the accusation].

"Rangers have done the right thing in a professional manner throughout the process."
