Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs admits that Kevin De Bruyne could still join Manchester City this summer.

Manchester City are working hard to prise the Belgian playmaker away from Wolfsburg and are ready to offer astronomical sums of money to push through the deal.

The English giants are willing to commit to a huge financial package to lure De Bruyne to the Etihad this summer, but the player himself has sent signals that he is keen to stay at the Volkswagen Arena for one more season.

However, the Wolfsburg sporting director has sought to temper the excitement of the club’s fans and said that despite De Bruyne’s statements his future in Germany remains uncertain.

Speaking to German magazine Sport Bild, Allofs said: “I think the issue is not quite over.

“As long as the transfer window is open, it will continue to occupy us.

“Manchester City will keep trying to get Kevin.”

Wolfsburg remain keen to hold on to the player and are ready to offer De Bruyne a new contract to further strengthen their position.

However, they are also aware that their financial package for the Chelsea man pales in comparison to that which Manchester City are ready to offer to take him to England this summer.
