Rennes are on the brink of signing Leeds United target Floyd Ayite from Bastia.

The 26-year-old Togo international emerged as a target for Uwe Rosler's Leeds earlier this summer, but the Whites have been beaten to the punch by Rennes, who have been impressed with Ayite's exploits at Bastia.

Ayite has scored in both Bastia's Ligue 1 games this season and Rennes are now just a step away from adding him to their ranks, according to French outlet Mercato 365.

The arrival of the Togo international is now all but done, allowing Rennes president Rene Ruello to switch his attentions to another target.

Next in line for Ruello is signing midfielder Yoann Gourcuff, who is a free agent following his departure from Lyon earlier this summer.

Ayite started his career at Bordeaux, before then enjoying loan spells with Angers and Nancy.

The winger, who is also able to operate as an attacking midfielder and at a push through the middle, joined Reims in 2011 and clocked up three years at the club.

He joined Bastia last year and is under contract until 2017.
