Rangers legend Ally Dawson feels that Gers could not have drawn more difficult opponents than Livingston in their quarter-final fixture of the Scottish Challenge Cup.

In the quarter-finals draw made yesterday, Rangers have been pitted against holders Livingston and will host Mark Burchill’s Lions at Ibrox on 10th October.

Dawson, who plied his trade for the Gers from 1975 until his departure in 1987, feels that the Lions will be tough opponents for Mark Warburton’s side, but adds that in order to win the trophy they will have to get past the tougher opponents at some point.

“If you’re going to win it, you’re going to have to beat one or two of the harder teams on the way”, he was quoted as saying by the Rangers website.

He further added that the Gers form at the moment suggests that they can take on all comers and win the tournament.

“We’ve got Livingston, and the way we are playing at the moment, we have every chance of going through to the next round and eventually going on and winning the competition.

“We’re playing well enough, although we’ll take each game as it comes, and I’m sure the manager will be saying that too.

“He won’t be worried who they come up against so long as they are doing well in the league and they are turning in good performances.”

Rangers have started their Scottish Championship campaign on a bright note, having won their first two games in emphatic fashion against St Mirren and Alloa respectively.
