AC Milan are holding talks with Liverpool and Mario Balotelli in a shock bid to re-sign the out-of-favour Italian striker, according to Sky Italia.

The Rossoneri sold Balotelli to Liverpool last summer for £16m, but he has struggled badly at Anfield and is now firmly out of Reds manager Brendan Rodgers' plans.

Balotelli was not even included on Liverpool's pre-season tour to Asia and Australia in another sign of how far his stock has fallen.

Now AC Milan are seriously considering offering Balotelli another chance to shine at the San Siro as they look to strengthen their squad, despite the club's president Silvio Berlusconi dubbing him a "rotten apple" shortly after he left for Liverpool.

Balotelli has, it has been claimed, been in Milan and has spoken to AC Milan coach Sinisa Mihajlovic about a return to the club.
